I have the following setup
Horstmann –CentaurPlus C27 Series 2 Two Channel 7 Day Programmer
WILO circulation pump
Honeywell BDR91 (wireless) programmable room stat
ILAN motorised valve
Drayfoss ATC Cylinder Stat

A couple of weeks ago I replaced the Honeywell motorised valve with a "new" one purchased from eBay. For a week this was OK but then it failed.

I decided to call in a plumber to sort things out as it was quite cold.

The conclusion was that the replacement Honeywell motorised valve was not working. He made it clear to me that buying off eBay was not a good idea because although it was listed as "new" the packaging had been defaced to remove any information on manufacture which made him suspect it was of dubious origin.

Fortunately I had purchased a "new" ILAN 3 Port 22mm or 28mm Motorised Mid Position Zone Valve Powerhead Replacement for V4073A1039 V4073A1054 V4073A1088 V4073A1062 from Amazon. He did not know the make but said it was worth a try. He also decided to check all the wiring as one wire was loose and he couldn't work out what went where easily. He eventually replaced the old wiring centre with a new Honeywell wiring centre with WAGO connectors ( a job overdue quite honestly).

Everything seemed fine but a couple of days later the circulating pump and the motorised valve stopped. I set the tank stat to maximum and they started again. This has happened a couple of times since and I noticed that if the hot water timer was "off" this didn't work. I also noticed that the Honeywell BDR91 had no LED although the remote was calling for heat and needed switching on again for the LED to show.

I have set the hot water to be on all the time to see if this makes any difference.

Anyone any clues as to what the problem might be?

PS Honeywell are considerably more expensive than other makes, is there a good alternative??

Sounds like it could be a wiring fault, get your plumber back. As for other makes, Drayton, Danfoss and Myson are ok, but your need to replace th whole valve, not just the head.
