Hello all

Have been asked to install central heating in a church.
Thinking along the lines of a worcester 30 cdi combi or maybe bigger after I have calculated it.
Problem is They have such high ceilings and will loose the heat.
Is there anything better than convecter rads so it spreads the heat about before it rises.
Any ideas.

Underfloor heating with weather compensation from the boiler, not a separate mixer.

Yes underfloor. Unfortunately churches tend to be used infrequently
and underfloor heating is very very slow to response needing
it to be switched on hours before use or left on for long periods.
Usually church floor are expensive and covering over or replacement
may not be an option.

I would go for air conditioning fast to install works as a heat pump so will
qualify for whatever payments nonsense they have in the future.
Combi boiler for hot water and a few radiators.

Infra red halogen heaters. That way the people feel instantly warm, so you don't waste masses of fuel heating the place while it's unoccupied.

Underfloor works very well in churches, you also need 3-4 fan convector's depending on the size of the church, to boost and circulate, for high ceilings. 1-2 bladed fans pushing the heat down works well.

Been their and have several Tee shirts. 8)

I agrre with both of the above it may not make me money but they may be more economical, in the long run.

Thank you

One of my ideas was plymth kick heaters powerd by a combi

Keep them coming

Problem is its a soilid floor with seats attched it would be too exspensive.
I like the idea about the fans blowing down. can you tell me more?

I have got options of fittinf Kick plymth heaters ????????

Think I would be looking at wet system fan convectors.

If you consider fan convectors, also consider the noise level.

We used to have a foot switch so the Vic could shut them off during the prayers and quite moments.

How about a forced air system?

Thats what is heating this Centra store. I know that because I installed it.
You can just about see the suspended ceiling outlets.
Its a Unico small air handler system. It has two coils. One utilising heat recovery (or could be a boiler) from the refrigeration and the other connected to a heat pump as back up.
No noise from this though and no need for any foot paddles. The fan runs super silent.

Just doing some googling on them and it brings up a few Church installs in the UK.

There's a Church near here which has just had a new floor throughout with UFH. It is superb, lovely and comfortable, whereas it was perishing before.

check rinnai out they do a range of heaters , but there website is down at the minute
