Hi

We have knocked 2 rooms into 1 and fitted a bifold which is approximately 3m wide, the area is approximately 40sqm and I’m wondering how best to heat this space.

Builder is recommending we dig up the concrete floor and have wet UFH, this part of the house was built in the early 90’s and there doesn’t seem to be much insulation the floor other than some polystyrene.

Option is a couple of decent radiators or dig out the concrete, kingspan followed by UFH, I just can’t work out if it’s worth the hassle

Comes down to money and of you can afford it.
Under floor heating is good although not very controllable as takes a few days to warm or cool.
Having to dig up existing floor is going to cost a fair bit.
What about ThermaSkirt Skirting board that's a radiator as another option

More than one way to skin a cat (is that still pc?) - or retrofit UFH

Any overlay UFH system can be retrofitted into an existing space, the only real drawback is the loss of a min of 20mm in height given the overlay boards are usually around 20mm high unless the slab is planed. It reacts and can be run just like radiators, there's no need for large thermal masses or systems that need to be left on to maintain the core temps.

Have you considered a Myson fan convection kitchen plinth heater for the kitchen part and wall mounted version for the dining end. Decent heat output without sacrificing too much wall space.
