Hi...I have an oil fired central heating system.

Over the last few weeks we have been having problems with the pump stopping working which has come back to life with a couple of sharp taps.

The last few mornings however the central heating doesn't appear to come on until after the first person has used a reasonable amount of hot water for a shower.

The time clock is set no differently to normal so the system should be coming on as normal. The hot water does appear to be getting hotter than normal as well.

Is this due to the pump malfunctioning or is it likely to be another cause.

Also how much is a replacemt pump likely to cost including fitting

As the pump comes back to life after a couple of taps, either its getting past it or there is some debris in there...a price to fix depends on how easy the pump is to access, and whether the valves either side of it are working.
John :)
