Trying to find out what type of valve I have on my heating oil tank,
here's a grotty pic of it:

Any ideas please?

Also, as an aside, where the large hexagonal 'nut' (at the very rear
of the pic) goes into the tank itself - this had some moderate sized
rusty flakes on it which I've now removed. What can I do to prevent
this rusting any further? Spray it with WD40 perhaps ???

Or is a bit of rusting to be expected?

I want to avoid any possible leaks from that area in the future!

Thanks

It looks like an early Atkinson Tankmaster, I think.
As for the big hexagon, just keep it greased - but don't try to turn it!
John :)

Thanks John.

As for greasing the 'nut' ........... don't think that I have any grease, will vaseline do? ;)

Thanks again John - Vaseline it is then! :)

BTW, should I be 'neutralising' the existing rust on the large 'nut' in any way, or isn't that necessary?

By all means treat the nut if you want, but as its so big, corrosion won't be a major issue.
Remember, don't turn it!!
John :)
