Hi

I'm getting a little stuck with what should be a pretty simple heating thermostat swap and wonder if anyone can help?

My very old thermostat had three wires attached: Earth, L (brown) and SL (blue).

We have no underfloor heating.

The thermostat I am installing is pretty simple, as displayed in the photo attached.

I tried Live to L and Blue to N, with little success.

I didn't connect the sensor cable, as it isn't needed due to there being a sensor on the front panel.

Where am I going wrong?

Thanks

Bob

You've purchased an under floor heating controller. what you need is a room thermostat. (a two-wire one)

Nozzle

Thanks Nozzle, this is supposed to do both room and under floor :/

I figured the L and N on the right are for the central heating, and the Load L1 and N1 on the left are for the floor heating, which I left alone.

Correct.

Obviously.
Why did you think it would work with SL wire connected to N (Neutral)?.

Where am I going wrong?
Lack of a Neutral wire.
Wrong thermostat (even if it would work if you had enough wires).

That may be so, but it would need a permanent live and neutral to do so.
