Hi,
PXL_20230618_163035231.jpg
we had some water damage to some plasterboard in the ceiling so I've cut the board out and replaced it.

One side of the new plasterboard sits almost flush with the existing board but the other side has about a 4mm height difference between the two boards. This is the far left side in the image.

I was planning on using scrim tape and multipurpose jointing/filling/fiinishing compound to finish the job but will this height difference between the boards cause an issue when the compound goes over the tape? Or would it work to do a base coat to shrink the difference in height between the boards?

The old plasterboard doesn't have any movement in it but I will add some supporting screws in there just in case.

Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks!

You may be better removing the board and packing behind it with thin shims of timber to bring it more level to the existing then skimming it will be a lot easier.

Ok this is a great idea. Will do this.
