Hi,

I'm converting a basement of a 3 storey terrace into a flat.

I'd like to remove the lower 2/3rds of one side of a chimney breast wall to allow a bed to sit flush to the wall.

My structural engineer wants to design it and produce a drawing at significant cost i'm sure. Surely there are ways to calculate the gallows bracket requirement here ?

Anyone know a way to do this ?

Here's the sort of brackets we'll use.

TIA,
Mike.

If you're doing this with Building Control, you first need to check with your BCO that gallows brackets are acceptable in principle. Some authorities do not accept them and insist on a wall-to-wall steel beam.
