Hi There,

I noticed a very damp patch of soil around the from door of my Victorian terrace. It is half moon shape around the door. I considered that the water is somehow sipping trough under the door? Don't know what would be the source of the water or how can I go about investigating this.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Who can I call to help solve this issue?

Any help welcome

I expect the water main is leaking. If you have a water meter in the pavement look and see if the bubble is constantly turning even when all taps are off. it might also be a leaking radiator pipe under the floor.

If you are a DIYer, have a look under the floorboards as the leak might be under the house, if not, dig a hole outside. Also find the original stopcock which is probably next to where the front gate used to be. Quite likely some idiot will have paved over it or buried it. As you are in a terrace walk up and down the road until you find a neighbour in a similar house with the cover visible, yours will probably be in the same place.

If you have a lead pipe you might get a subsidy from your water co towards the cost of running a new one.

if you are not a DIYer, ask around for an experienced and trusted local plumber.

Thank you John I will investigate. Very helpful answer.
