I did warn the Mrs not to ever ask me to do any DIY but tonight I gave in and agreed to put up a blind. The last one I did was so traumatic she has waited about 6 months for this one!

Anyway last one i put up I had to drill into a concrete lintel to fix the hangers. This time it was in our extension and I expected the same.

I started to drill the hole and hit something hard, thought that must be the lintel but the hammer drill and concrete bit would not touch it. Mrs said there was something shiny in there so I had a go with a HSS bit, straight through and 2 nice 6mm holes drilled just right for the red rawplugs...

Oops rawplugs don't work in a hollow metal lintel! and I cant use 6mm self tappers (if they even exist) as I need small (approx 3mm) screws to fit the brackets.

Is there any sort of fixing I can use which would clamp inside the lintel? if so what are they called.

I guess I could redrill smaller holes further along but that would mess up the look of the brackets.

Use self-drilling screws, effin brill.

Trouble is I already drilled holes that are far too big. If I had my brain in gear when I realised it was a metal lintel i would have done small holes!

cavity wall toggle plugs , look like a bolt with 2 hinged wings on them

put them in hole and the wings expand thus the bolt cannot come back out
p.s make sure you put the bolt through the blind bracket first
