Oil all over my new drive

Have a problem with the above punto van as in it is leaking oil from the top of the air filter box.

It seems it is fitted with a metal hose that sends spent heat back towards the engine to make it more economical to run.

I have been told however that instead of burned gases being past through this metal hose, oil is being forced through instead, which in turn is causing the oil leak.
Does anyone know what could be causing this this and what would it cost on average to get fixed.
I don't know if a seal has been blown in the engine or is it a piston ring fault.
When i remove the oil cap cover compression can be felt blowing out the filler cap.
Thanks in advance

The pipe you mention is to transfer "blow-by" gasses back for reburning via the air intake/filter.What you are describing sounds like you have a problem with excessive gasses which could be caused by piston ring failure.I can only say a compression test is in order and/or an engine cylinder pressure test is done, this will tell you what condition your cylinders and valves are in and where pressure is passing (each cylinder must be on compression stroke when testing is done, with the handbrake on).

Sorry, I was thinking petrol.
The metal pipe will probably be from the turbo charger(if fitted).
The charger could be your problem but carry out the pressure tests to prove the condition of cylinders, rings, pistons and valves.

Thanks john,

If it is the piston ring problem any idea what the cost could be to repair it?

Forgot to mention it has just past its first MOT the other day, would they have picked up this fault with the gases then vier the emmisions test.

The van is 51 reg and has done 33000 miles

HAS YOUR VAN GOT A TURBO CHARGER FITTED ??

FITTING NEW PISTON RINGS IS A FAIRLY LARGE,EXPENSIVE JOB.

IF YOUR VAN HAS A TURBO,IT COULD BE THIS GIVING YOU THE PROBLEM (OIL SEALS OR BLOCKED RETURN LINE).

YOU NEED TO ELIMINATE BY TESTING.OR GET A GARAGE TO ADVISE.

REGARDS
JOHN
