When the bathroom basin hot water tap is turned on about a quarter and the combi kicks in and starts to heat the water a slight screeching noise is made. When tap is turned on more this noise will disappear. The taps are about 8 years old and I undertand that I live in a hard water area. The combi is about 5 years old.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Its unclear from what you have said if the noise is from the boiler or tap !!!

The boiler does not know where its water is going so any tap will have the same effect on the boiler at the same flow rate.
