Help - I think my CH pump is in the wrong way around?

Hi,

I noticed a small drip from the header tank and finally went to investigate - no sign of a leaky valve - but the tank was read hot? This was never the case before the pump was replaced in May this year.

On investigation I think that the pump is the wrong way around but how can I be sure? I think I am right as:

1. The hot water is entering radiators from the opposite end to the Themo-valves.
2. The flow is towards the expansion-header tank feed (away from the three-port valve). The pump actually looks upside down too.

I have a Glow worm Space Saver II boiler (none-combi) but don't have a manual to know which is the flow and return. Anyone help?

The arrow on the pump should point towards the 3 way valve.

Could be that you need an anti gravity loop on your feed pipe or that your system is pumping over. Sort out the pump direction thing first

The question is who put the pump in backwards ???

Thanks I have now switched it around and it appears to have fixed the problem!

BTW Agile It was a plumber who replaced the pump when it failed earlier this year.

The only time I can remember was when I allowed a trainee to fit it and as he should have been competent ( has NVQ2 and ACS etc. ) I rather let him get on with it while I chatted to the medical student tenant girls.

To give him ( and myself ) our due, it was a pump in a dark under stairs cupboard and the motorised valves were fitted on the returns for some reason.

Our sin was to not to observe the cardinal rule of noting which way round the original pump was fitted!

There was a further complication that the old pump valves were extra long types and we had to add a short length of 22 mm to make up the length.

We made another mistake because the parking voucher was about to run out and we left before running the system long enough to start heating the HW.
