Hi. Does anyone know how to do this....
I have an old-style up&over Henderson garage door with a cable going from the central handle up to a spring catch at the top. The cable has broken, with me on the outside and all my tools on the inside! There is a metal plate guarding the catch from the outside so I can't easily get at it with e.g. a screwdriver...but I can't be the first person this has happened to so presumably there's a way to get in. Can anyone help? Thanks.

have to get the metal guard off. I know of only one other way, but your tools are inside, ask the neighbour for a very large hammer.

The catches on these Hendersons are indeed pathetic, and rarely engage very far into the keep.
How about a wide bladed implement (i.e a shovel) levered into the top, and forced down? 1/4" should see it!
Be lucky
John :)

Thanks everyone for your help, greatly appreciated. Problem now solved.

This one was today's winner! "How about a wide bladed implement (i.e a shovel) levered into the top, and forced down? 1/4" should see it! "

Have made a new connector between the handle and catch, and in case it helps anyone I put two on - so if one breaks again I should see it and be able to fix it while still being able to open the door by virtue of their being another one.
Cheers!
