Hi folks,
This is a bit of an ask, I know.
I am a housing officer and I have to go and see a lady in a bout 1 HOUR. She has a Thorn Apollo Boiler which has been recently corgi serviced (30/04/07).

She states the hot water and heating are not working, but it sounds like the pilot is staying lit for a time and then extinguishing. Initially i thought the thermocouple but then it should have been picked up at the service.

So I am going to go up there and see if i can see what the problem is, maybe its just that she doesnt have instructions or that english isnt really her first language.

:?

Anyone got any ideas about what i can do to reset it so it might work? Obviously i wont go undoing screws and stuff because thats someone elses job...

Any thoughts on how to fire it up would be greatly appreciated. Sorry I cant provide the model number because I have never seen it. Apparently (according to the gas cert) the flue type is RS... whatever that means...

thanks

Blanco

There is little you can do since you are not qualified to work on the boiler.

If you can relight the pilot it may stay on sufficient to heat the hot water cylinder.

Unfortunately there are many causes of pilot outage but often they just require a new thermocouple/overheat thermostat and top socket.

I hope the service was not the usual council contract effort - the heat exchangers in these old boilers are often very blocked due to poor maintenance.

Thanks Gas Guru for getting back so quickly..

I wans't going to try and fix it, I dont do maintenance - to be honest I get confused changing plugs and stuff.

Its not a council property, its temporary accommodation that is leased from a private landlord who kindly went to Spain for a couple of weeks.

She flew out yesterday, so if it doesnt just need re-lighting, i will maybe have to get a council man round there to have a look. And thats not going to make things better, methinks!!

Its had a proper service as I said, I'm hoping the tenant simply doesn't know about holding the button in..... and that i can get away with just lighting it!!

Ah well, it gets me out the office on a sunny afternoon!!

Thanks Again
