Sorry for taking so long to get a picture up but here is the back.

As you can see theirs a live and a neutral coming from the lamp itself but the only earth is connected to the metal fitting.

Nothing sinister there, would normally expect the manufacturer to have incorporated a terminal connector but no great shakes. You need a connection strip with three terminals, Live to Live, Neutral to Neutral and Earth to Earth.

The old lights are already connected to a strip.

So its good and safe just to connect them all up then?

You can use the strip, but whether that makes it safe would depend on continuity of the CPC/earth to the incoming earth supply, so for safety reason I would recommend testing that out.
