I'm really struggling to get the door seal back on my John Lewis Washer Drier (model 1408). It would be a big help if I could actually open the case for access but after removing all the visible screws it wont budge.

Does anyone know what the trick is?

Thanks

Sorry to re-raise old posts but I still need help opening up the case of my washer. I thought it might help if I posted some pictures. As you can see, the case seems to be in two pieces (front and back)) and joined down the middle. I've looked and can't see any catches or clips holding the two together although the sides do appear to be integral to the whole frame of the washer.

Ultimately I want to remove the drum completely so I can give it a good clean. The washer is only 3 years old but has an unpleasant smell that is transferred to clothes even when removed immediately after the wash cycle has finished. We always wash at 40 degrees using liquitabs. Its a washer drier as well which I don't think has helped (all the parts I have managed to access are completely full of old damp lint!).

I have tried repeated 90 degree soda washes and white vinegar but this seems to have made the problem worse.

If anyone can help it would be gratefully appreciated. Also, if its any help, I believe the washer is a Miele but badged for John Lewis.

Thanks.

You'll have to replace the door bellow from the front (through the door opening) & I can tell you its a real pain if you haven't done it before. Your machine isn't a re-badged Miele, it is basically a Zanussi with a few extra bells & whistles. You can remove the back half of the case but it won't help you much with the door seal. And to strip the machine down totally just to clean the drum is a bit like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Post the PNC number on the door sticker if you require further information.

Thanks Zipper and thanks for pointing out my error. I did manage to get the seal off, clean it and get it back on and yes, it was a real pain!

How can I clean the drum properly without removing? Is there anything stronger than soda at 90deg that can shift the smell? I don't mind spending a day stripping the machine down if thats what it needs. It'll be a lot cheaper than buying a new machine!

The pnc is 914603110

You would be giving yourself a mammoth task to dismantle everything & open up the two halves of the tub just to clean out some gunge. Remember this is a washer/dryer...not a regular washing machine. Believe me you really don't want to go down that road (unless you like jigsaw puzzles & fitting door seals through portholes). Try distilled white vinegar (plenty of it). If it is as bad as you say you may have to run several vinegar/95C maintenance washes to make an impression, but it will get a little better each time. When you are done try to avoid using low temp programs unless you have to. Use powder detergent & go easy on the softener. Run a 95C/vinegar maintenance wash once a month.

Have you tried Milton sterilising heard that's good as well , full bottle on a 95.

Milton liquid...now that is interesting. My old man used to sterilize his wine making equipment & bottles with the stuff & it did a really great job (it didn't make his home-made elderberry wine taste any better but at least it was 100% germ free). Milton could be your answer to your problem 8)

Great, I've got a bottle of the stuff under the sink. I'll give it a go and let you know how it goes.
Thanks. :D
