Help, Opening up bedroom chimney breast

Hello,

We’re in the process of renovating our 1920s home and are opening up all of the fireplaces in the bedrooms. We’re planning on reinstalling cast iron fireplaces for decorative purposes.

Are we safe to remove the brickwork inside the opening at the bottom? Or would it be best to leave alone?

Yes. Looks like it was formed to take an old cast iron fire grate and surround....
