I think it depends on what else is on the system,ie one/two heating zones, remote wireless control preferred or not, your installer should already have had this discussion with you, what did they suggest?

The programmer I took out was the ST9400C, the VRC 470 was installed in place of the room thermostat, utilised existing wiring.
VRC470 much more versatile for control and looks smart too.
