Thought I'd sussed out to go for either a Worcester greenstar 18RI or a Vaillant ecotec plus 418 but plumber had a look and said that because there are only three wires (L/N/E) within the powers socket I can't have these boilers as they need five wires!

It looks like running two extra wires is going to be a pain so do any of you have any suggestions as to what replacement boiler I should go for that will connect up to the electrics without modifications to the wiring?

I'm looking for standard heat only condensing boiler (not combi) output around 18KW.

Grateful for any suggestions.

Cheers

First of all I am NOT a plumber or an electrician.

Did you ask your plumber what these wires are for?
I just had a look at the manual on the Vaillant ecotec plus 418, and it has many wiring options depending on what other controls you have.

It does show a 5 terminal, but it says...

4.4.5 External electrical controls
The boiler terminals 3, 4 and 5 are for connecting
external electrical controls. Terminals 3 and 4 are
linked together when the boiler is supplied. If external
controls are used, this link must be removed, and the
controls connected to terminal 4. Terminal 5 is an
additional neutral connection for external neutrals
such as from the anticipator of a room thermostat.

If your plumber knows what hes doing, he should have explained this to you.

I take it your not using any external controls?
You only need 3 wires if your not!

they will be for the room stat if you havent got one leave the link in

you can have any boiler (within reason)

and if you do want a room stat fit a wireless one
