Hi,

I recently uncovered this old fireplace, but unfortunately its broken. Can anyone tell me what the best thing to do with it is?
I would like to keep it if it can be saved.

Thanks

Do you have all the pieces?
It's possible to weld cast although not easy, it involves heating up the work and isn't something for the beginner. Also welding would require cleaning off which may involve grinding on the face which may damage the finish.
It may be possible to plate it up at the back and hide rivets or bolts underneath the tile line.
Either way there is still a good chance you won't make an invisible join and it will require futher work to blend it all in.
In the end it may not be worth it unless it has some emontional value, may be better to scrap and replace they're not that expensive to buy.

A SIFbronze repair may be possible if you have all the bits, but would probably need the complete surround removing first.

If the fireplace is just going to be decorative, without a fire, a 'cold' repair with an epoxy putty may be possible, but it probably wouldn't stand upto the rigours of use as a fireplace.

Welding cast iron is a bit of a skilled job. To be honest I'd be tempted to look for something similar on eBay and install that.

Cheers
