Help with renault clio please

hi, my p reg clio is making an odd noise.
(not exhaust related)
from inside the car it sounds really throaty, but the engine note changes when you drive on different road surfaces. on smooth tarmac you can hardly hear it but on old concrete it sounds like an old tractor!!
any ideas??

have you got new tyres fitted ?

have you checked your tyre pressures ?

different surfaces produce different sounds

hi, took it to kwik fit and they even took it out for a drive, they said it wasnt the tyres.
