I have a cupboard over the stairs which has a door into a bed room and the landing. I wish to remove the door from the bedroom and block it up!

The wall is made of what looks like 80mm or 3 inch concrete blocks which seem to almost a tongue and grove along the vertical edge.

Do these blocks have a special name?
Can you still get this sized block?

Any help would be good

How old is the house?
and do you have pictures of the walls construction?
3 inch cinder blocks where used in the 50s and 60s. Most concrete blocks now are a minimum size of 100mm, but you could get round it by installing a timber partition.
Providing blocking the doorway does not effect fire regulations.

The house was built around 1955.
As it was a cupboard i dont think it would affect fire regs as the door is half height too
Was hoping to use blocks as opposed to stud due to wanting to hang a bit more weight.

Am i guessing it is near impossible to get anything smaller than 100mm was trying to avoid that as the total depth of the wall is near 100mm
