I am in the middle of a project and trying to remove a couple of wall lights, using the wiring from one to run up to ceiling for ceiling lighting. I have a single gang two way switch controlling both wall lights i.e. they both come on at the same time and do not have their own on/off switches. One light has a simple 2 core with earth cable and I have extended that using a junction box. The other wall light has a 2 core with earth and a 3 core with earth, including a yellow cable and I want to remove this be completely. I can't remove the cable as it is buried in a brick wall so was going to use a blanking plate. I cut the cables to this light and made them safe, but now the other light does not work. I think the yellow cable might be something to do with it but in my research I can't find any mention of the yellow going to the light, only from switch to switch. Help!!

Yup.

Sounds like it could be the "cable saving" method:

Check the switches - see if all you have is 3C+E at each of them.
