Just need a little bit of help replacing my old double switch
the wiring is doing my head in.

On your existing switch there is diagonal line this represents the division between the two switches. So the bottom switch has L1 on the LHS and L2 and L3 on the RHS, the top switch is vise versa. On your new switch L1 for both switches is on the LHS, and L2 and L3 are on the RHS.
 
I have to say it comes as no surprise to learn that you find the concept of competence something to laugh at.

I'm certainly not trying to wind anyone up, and sadpatheticfrightenedinadeqautefoolmwatsonxx isn't managing to wind me up. He is giving me a laugh, though, as he thrashes around in his pit of ignorance.
