hi-gloss chipboard/mdf

Ive looked at a couple of post and noticed a few post in the past, but not quite helping me with my problem.
I'm looking to build an understair built in unit and would like the finish to be a hi-gloss white.
Because its under the stairs I won't be able to use off the shelf type panels to front the unit, so really i'm looking for panels that I can cut myself and edge, or look for a company that can make the panels to specified size.
I know that scrit has been helpfull in the past, and suggested that location is important. As I live in Hampshire I would appriciate something close by.

scrit hasnt been about for ages

dont go for high gloss it shows up the least little blemish the smallish scratch shows up even dust

b&q do a board cutting service but you will have to edge the boards

Thanks for the welcome. Newbies don't always get a welcome.
It's a pity about scrit, hope things are ok that end.
As for the material, i'm looking for a material that will be able give a light perspective and let a little light reflected back into the room.
I'm not shy of cutting big boards myself, so not worried where it comes from.
Appriciate the advice given on the effect that high gloss and the problems it can have. I will certainly keep that in mind when the final choice is made.
Do you have any recomandations on a suitable material, as stated before it would ne preferable if it was mfc or mdf.

you can get a good finnish on mdf if you take your time and paint it properly

Do you think its possible to get a good quality finish without the aid of spraying equipment.
I know that a lot of sanding would be needed between layers of primers and top coats, but I thought that was only possible with guns.

You'll not get a commercial finish without spraying. You can actually get a half decent finish with brushing though. There was a thread on this recently: //www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=197638

You need somebody like IDS or Edens (Montague L Meyer) for high gloss MFC. You are likely to find white, black and a couple or 3 different creams and possibly even a burgendy type - you should get edging from Ney or Cadre. Be prepared to pay anything up to £100 or more for a board size approx 2650 x 2070 (ish).... In order of quality of gloss and price, starting with the cheapest:

Finsa
Egger
Pfliedera (Woodego)
Thermopal

Unlikely that a distributor will be interested in cutting a small amount for you given the likelyhood of scratching.

The price is not putting me off, but it seems that there is a recuring theme on the scratching, dust and imperfections of this material. Is it really that prone to scratching? I thought being mfc it would be hard wearing.

no more prone to scratching dust watermarks just shows them up regadless off how faint
