1st time diy
above my stairs the ceiling is high (big square empty space)
i want to lower it down so if i build a frame can i just put some
of that thin wood boards onto it and paint it straight after or do i need to plasterboard it
thanks for any help

Yes you can do either but can you ventilated above somewhere incase of musky smell ?

the space above goes straight into loft should it be ok
thanks for your help

My stair well has been boxed in, by a previous occupier. They only put battens on the wall, screwed plywood across, then put polystyrene tiles on. This looks clean, and the lack of the need to decorate that large space, with the prospect of ladders and boards is great. I have thought about creating a wardrobe above that, therefore giving me a built-in wardrobe to the adjacent bedroom. There is a water pipe just above the boxing and an access hatch of about 4 inches square is built into the tiles, it doesn't pong.
