Ladders on stairs, safest options?

I'm looking at banging off the plaster on my landing and stairs (and then plaster boarding, sealing, filling, painting etc). The high point is quite high, so will need to use a ladder. I have a smallish 2 piece combination ladder, and I was thinking of making some kind of L shape platform that goes across 2 stairs, but I'm not sure how secure that's going to be, so I thought I'd ask here.

I also saw someone mention getting a ladder and putting it upright against the top wall of the landing over the stairs and then putting a plank through one of the rungs level with one of the stairs, and then putting another ladder on that makeshift platform, but that sounds a bit wobbly to me. Saw some random unbranded things on amazon, but at £50, seems a bit steep. I don't want to buy a stair ladder for this, so what has everyone else used for this kind of thing? Not got many lives left after this last week. Any suggestions welcome, cheers.

A self constructed wooden "box" which sits on one step of the staircase to bring that step exactly level with the step above it. Then stand the ladder with one foot on the step and the other on the "box".

Alternatively I have done the ladder thing with two ladders from a step to the wall of the landing above the stairs and two scaffold boards from the top of the stairs to a rung on each ladder. I don't balance a ladder on the boards because I am tall enough to reach the ceiling when standing on the boards. Two boards and ladders make it less likely that I will fall off the board and down the stairs.

None of this is a recommendation and is unlikely to be H&S compliant but you asked what we used for this sort of thing.

Thanks for the suggestions. Didn't have any planks, so cobbled together a sideways step thing out of odds and ends, and screwed it to the stairs. Pretty solid and did the trick, anyway.
