Hello,

I've a Vaillant boiler with an onboard time clock.
Also fed through the wall from the boiler is a thermostat (pic beside the dimmer switch).

Can the wiring of this thermostat be used for the Hive if I remove it? Or does the wiring need to come from somewhere else?

I have fitted a number of Hives, but this is not a traditional time clock replacement.

Many thanks.

Yes, the wiring should be capable of being reused - although is this a convenient mounting point for the Hive receiver?

If you can turn the power off to the boiler and pop the cover off of the 'stat, we may be able to help identify the wiring.
(I believe I have attached your 'stats datasheet)

but this is not a traditional time clock replacement.
To bypass the internal time clock, simply turn the heating knob from clock to 'On'.

Finally I got a pic... any ideas if a Hive can be wired easily to this?

Your wiring makes it slightly more complicated, I'm afraid.

Your existing 'stat is missing a neutral connection; this would have powered the neon and an 'accelerating' resistor.

The brown wire is a live and the blue wire is a switched live, going back to the boiler.

For the Hive to work, you would need to find a neutral - and to do things properly, it would be advisable to install a new cable, or at least, rewire the connections (using the original cable, with a blue wire sheathed in brown as a switched live, and a green/yellow, sheathed in blue as a neutral, would be particularly frowned upon!).

Alternatively, you could keep the wiring as it is, and use a battery powered system, such as the Nest Thermostat E.
