ok, so after getting help from @Echo the husky on wiring, i'm now all working with hive with the old thermo connected.

Plumber i know says i've got a gravity fed system, so i've turned on the hive receiver to be GF mode.

Got some issues i'm not sure about;

1. It all works ok for CH but HW alone dosn't work when I manually turn it on, ok now but not sure it is right here?
2. How do i remove the old thermo i've red i just join red/yellow cables together? what about the neutral left over?

That's how gravity system works.
Look at it another way:
Boiler on, water cylinder heats solely by gravity (it just does) with no pump. While in this mode you can also turn on the central heating pump.

You should really disconnect all three wires at the other end of the cable, and then -
link the two wires that the red and yellow were connected to.

So how do i heat HW without turning on CH?

Do you mean the water doesn't heat up at all?

You can't NOT heat the water in a gravity system if the boiler is on.
It will take longer when the heating is on as well.

Maybe it's not a gravity system. What valve(s) do you have?

Um, maybe it isn't GF then.

When i try turning HW on alone from the HIVE (light comes on) the boiler doesn't turn on.

If you only have one CH zone then it's doesn't look like a gravity system.

Perhaps your plumber was referring to something else.

Switch it back.

Ok, so turned it onto normal mode. Turn on at hive and it dosn't work, then the old thermo goes to 15 degrees, i up this to 20 odd and it works.

Boiler seems to turn on and heat up for 5-10 mins then turn off with green flashing light (Suprima 50).

Is this behaviour normal for the boiler?

What a day, woke up this morning with heating coming on at the schedule..clunk clunk...farkkk what is that.

Pump had seized, so unscrew and wind it round, heating back on.

I'm really not confident though HW is working on hive, it comes on on the thermo but boiler doesn't come on.

HW seems to be ok, does this heat someway when CH is activated?

Help!
