Hive thermostat

Hi. I need some help with putting a bridge in my old thermostat to allow hive to work. Fitted the hive but the heating only works still off the old wall stat.
Attached are pics of old stat and wiring box.

The easiest way would be to join the red and yellow wires where the old thermostat is with a connector.
Also put a separate connector on the blue wire.
Then either put a blank plate on the box or fit your new Hive thermostat there to cover the connectors.

No. Normal plus tank.

This looks a mess, and clearly needs some work both with marking what is what, and some cable retainers, and also some thing wrong here

it seems some one has used green/yellow for some thing which is not earth.

You have three x triple and earth cables, and four flexes, and no labels. One triple and earth goes to thermostat, likely you have motorised valves, and a programmer, and a tank thermostat, and a boiler, but nothing to show you which is which.

Seems likely the flex with the earth shown goes to the tank thermostat, plumbers seem to do that a lot, clearly that flex needs changing to 4 core, the rules for installed wiring are different to wiring for plug in items, for plug in items you can have class II where no earth is used, but with the exception of a lampholder having no exposed-conductive-parts and suspended from such a point, a circuit protective conductor shall be run to and terminated at each point in wiring and at each accessory.

Even if the accessory is class II the protective conductor (earth wire) needs to be run even if not used, and this has been so since 1966.
