We have an icos HE24 boiler, that's connected to a honeywell system comprising of:

HC60NG - Relay (beside hot water tank)
HCW80 - Thermostat (hallway)
ST9400C - 7 day timer (kitchen)

The whole kit has been a bit iffy for a while, as for the thermostat - sometimes we have to blow into it to get it working, other times give it a wallop. It's bound to the relay fine.

Assuming it no longer wants to accept life, how do I get the relay to switch on the heating whilst we work out what to do? I've seen it can be done, just not found the how(!). Hot water function is fine

Thanks Chris - do you know which two wires I should use (assuming you mean the HC60NG relay)? I've been trying to find out but can't find anything.
Yes, it would be the ones from A and B, but if you have a linked common, that would need to remain too. Can you post a photo of the wiring inside the relay box?

Thanks Chris, popped open the case and have this (the one with the single grey button) The other photo is of the slightly larger blank plate "mothership" it's connecting to.

Looks like I don't have an A, but have the C (assuming same thing), just a process of switching the leccy off, binding those two for the moment, and control on/off at the wall using the manual controls when required?

The wall timer hasn't got temperature control, so switch off when toasty?

Yes, they must have changed it years down the line, as they’re a and b now. It will still work by putting the black wire in with the grey, but as per your username switch the electric off first as it’s mains voltage indicated by the brown sleeving. Yes, just have to turn off when toasty. You can probably swap it once you have a new thermostat, but this will should get your heating on for now.

Done!

THANKYOU!

Couldn't get them in the same connector, so threw them in a wago unit

For my simplistic brain (and anyone in the future with the same issue), how does a remote thermostat control a physical connection? Is the electric diverted (on/off) via the chipset on the board?

no the RF unit has a receiver that is installed next to the boiler/wiring centre depending on your system and is hard wired to the boiler or zone controls and the RF thermostat talks to it and the relays in the receiver unit do the rest
