Hi, I’ve got Honeywell old thermostat and looking to replace with a wifi one for remote access. Any advice which smart thermostat will be suitable replacement that will work with this wiring and is for a reasonable price?
Please see the picture of the current.
Many Thanks in advance!

Question one has to be why you want Wi-Fi.
I tried to fit a thermostat with geofencing, and it turned out recovery was too slow. It would auto turn the heating off when we left, but would not turn it back on in time to come back to a warm house.

So simple time works better for me.

To speed up heating, one can heat key rooms first, the main way this is done is using linked TRV heads, Honeywell Evohome or Drayton Wiser both do this, some versions of Tado also do this, and Hive has an odd way of linking, once the wall thermostat hits 22ºC it stops taking a demand for heat, not a clue why.

@Mister Banks
Drayton Wiser will also be a direct replacement.
thanks, but replacing the main unit is all fine but the thermostat is not taking any wires, as simply connects wirelessly. so will it mean the current Honeywell rotating thermostat wires become free? As I believe no as how it will make the circuit complete?

Just to clarify. You want to keep the existing time controller, but change just the thermostat to one that can be controlled remotely?
Some of the above suggestions assume you will be changing the time controller too. Please clarify before we mislead you.

Or to place that into more context...

Your time clock is a ubiquitous BG/Drayton programmer - it fits on an 'industry standard' backplate.
The Dual channel Hive, or Drayton Wiser have been suggested, because they will slot directly onto that backplate and work, with no need for any further wiring (they also provide the smart stat capability you want and remote control of the HW times).

However, you are correct - something will need to be done with the existing stat.
The simplest solution is to turn it up to maximum.
Alternatively, it can be bridged out, either behind the stat, or traced back to the wiring centre, or programmer.

If you only want a smart stat to replace the existing (keeping the BG programmer), it appears you have a neutral connection at the stat; this should give you a wider choice of replacement stats.

I have "Smart" thermostats, a Nest Gen 3 which also controls DHW, and a Wiser single channel, however all the "Smart" functions have been turned off. Hence, why I ask what are your aims. It is likely a programmable wired thermostat will do most of what you want. ae235.jpgCheap and in the last house (Open Plan) was all I needed.

This house has new fangle things called internal doors, so consideration has to be taken, on which room/s to use to turn the boiler on. At the moment I use three rooms, with wall thermostats, the 4 lower rooms, controlled by a thermostat like yours, the upper 10 heated areas, uses two thermostats in parallel. But I can add more if required.

The TRV heads stop any room overheating, and the wall thermostats ensure the boiler runs when required. But you can get linked TRV heads which do both.

thanks for all responses, basically I simply wants to replace just the thermostat to have the ability to set temperature remotely. Thanks
