If we needed a second car for that purpose, we'd consider one too but we are fortunate enough to have the means to charge it off-road. Millions of others, especially those in towns (who are the ones that really need it), don’t.

Modern cars charge faster than they used to. Solid state batteries (with 10mins charge times) are just entering mass production so will probably start appearing in bulk in 4/5 years.

Nearly everyone could make an EV work if they had to (and could afford the price for a long ranged model), but for some people charging logistics take away a lot of the benefits of an EV and shouldn't be buying one yet.

In my area you can charge an EV at the supermarket.

Not as cheap and convenient as doing it at home, but for many people it would be adequate.

I see the newer cars often have a range around 250 miles. Some people don't do that in a week. Most people don't do it in a day.

My model 3 will suck 3/4 of a tank in about 10-15mins at a supercharger. I mostly charge at home though.
