Hi

I have an engineer change the brushes on my machine yesterday, they were majorly worn. At first he said that the motor was fine, then he kept on about the 'tacos' not working properly.

I have no idea what this is but he suggested that I would need a new machine.

He charged me for replacing the brushes, then I put a wash on and the clothes haven't been washed properly and the washing is soaking wet.

Could someone help me please? Cheers SliverUK

Yeah, that sounds about right, he said before he left that it would be better getting another machine than having a new motor, because you can't just fix the 'taco' whatever that is.

The noises the machine is making now it's been 'fixed' I have never heard before, it sounds like it is taking off, but just for a few seconds, then it calms back down again.

The tacho is the little bit on the end of the motor that tells the motor control board how fast (or slow) the motor is actually turning.

But since you called him out because of poor no spin, and he did not fix the problem he should come back and fix it FOC

Thanks Breezer for your speedy response. Can you fix the Tacho then without replacing the mortor? He said that you couldn't and that I would need a new motor, which wouldn't be worth it (even though my mahcine is only 4 years old)

Unfortantley the engineer is my Dads friend!

I am an ex hp engineer, i have never changed a tacho, but that doesnt mean to say no one has ever had a dodgy one. I have had a broken magnet in a tacho (a tacho works by spinning a magnet inside a coil)

I dont think its the tacho, i would suggest that it is the motor, why not ring round several places and get quotes for a another one (fitted)
