Hoover Ultracare 1500 Washing Machine washes but wont spin

Hi can anyone help?

The heading says it all my washing machine goes through the wash cycle OK but wont spin.

The water drains out, but when it tries to spin the drum moves slightly then it stops, makes a few noises and tries again. This continues until I manually switch of the machine.

Its like it wants to spin and has a go at spinning, but it can't quite manage it but keeps on trying.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Check motor brushes

I will check the Brushes.

But surely if the machine does turn initially to complete the wash cycle then it cant be the brushes - or can it?

Because the motor turns at a higher speed during spin than wash the extra current drawn can make the contact between the brushes & the com break down & therefore lose supply to the motor. It's a good first check.
