Hoover Washing Machine - Leaking water pump - Sealant

The water pump has started to leak on our Hoover Ecologic Washer dryer 1100 (1992 vintage) washing machine. Having taken off the pump and dismanteling it would appear that the water is leaking where the electric motor shaft enters the plastic pump housing. There is a rubber seal that looks OK after cleaning it up but before I put it all back again is there a sealant that can be used/recommended,that I can apply, to help prevent it leaking.

genuine silcone sealant? but it may not be the washer at fault, get a new pump then you will know for sure it will be ok
