hot and old water alternating...

I have a Biasi boiler that is 4 years old.

i had this problem of hot/cold water alternating for a few months now.
I asked a number of plumbers to give me quotes but....
they range from £30 to "you need a new boiler"


the radiators are fine so i dont think they need to be powerflushed (as some plumbers suggested)

do you have an idea of what the problem is and of the approx. price?

What is the model name and number?

presuming it's a combi,
it could be the secondary heat exchanger is scaled up

Blocked plate heat exchanger.

I charge a fixed price repair charge for repairs + parts used.

I am sure no plumbers will be interested in giving quotes for repairs.

What is going to happen if they give a quote for repairs and
get the cause wrong and then need extra parts they certainly
won't be interested in paying for the other parts.
Although it might teach them to identify the part correctly
in the first place.

it is a riva compact HE and yes it is a combi boiler...

so how much do you think i should cost me (roughly)? is it more like the guy who quoted me £30 or is it going to be more like £100-200?

thanks for your input dcawell... of course it is easier to change the whole boiler.... but then again, when you take your car to the garage, you dont end up with a brand new car each time!!!!

I'd say blocked or scaled plate heat exchanger is a spot on diagnosis.

Off the top of my head I'd say you would be looking £70-£110 or so for the part (Don't quote me) and fitting well it's about a 30-45 min job so depends what the hourly rate is
