Hot water cylinder

Hi,

I'm trying to replace a hot water tap washer.

When I go to the airing cupboard to turn off the cold water feed to the hot water tank I can see a red wheel gate valve which is ok but

I've also noticed another red wheel valve in the flow from the boiler to the hot water cylinder.

Is this normal and should it be fully open? I've not seen any links before which mention a valve in that circuit

do you mean in the return from the cylinder ?

Hi,

sorry yes, it is in the return.

The CH and HW share a common flow from the boiler.

Proper plumber would have fitted a lockshield
