hot water cylinder

Hello,

I would be grateful for any advice people can provide on removing the blanking plate that is on my hot water cylinder. I have tried removing it with spanners, but its on there tight, I dont want to put too much force on it, other wise I will split the cylinder.

Has anyone ever chain drilled the thing out? or is there any other way?

I want to install an immerson heater as I had no hot water for two days whilst I repaired my wonderful potterton suprima boiler.

drain water and then heat the blank (if you`re brave+cover your eyes)until the sealing ring goes BANG-

or less time and keep trying with the big spanner
