Hi

I have a Mira 415 shower & over the past 4 weeks I've noticed the water growing cooler the longer the shower is on. It has got to a point now where after 5 mins I have to turn up the temp dial & continue doing so otherwise the water turns cold.

I have checked everything to do with my boiler & that seems fine & I have hot water coming through taps so is definately the shower. Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Actually while I think about this the toilet in the same room flushes but takes an age to refil which it has never done before, the refil just seems to be trickling in. It's one of those units where the silver push button is in the middle of the cistern so I'm not sure how to open it up.

Vikingman, I was confronted with the same problem, when I visited one of my friends last time. I didn't tell him because I didn't wish to be rude. Still, I'd like to know what was the reason.

There can be all sorts of reasons.

The first check would be to MEASURE the hot water temp going into the shower!

With out going all high tech simply with your hand will do, pipe on the left as you are facing the shower should be hot, if the temprature cools on this pipe when the shower cools then its not the valve.

Is the shower pumped?

Thanks all for replying

I've checked the pipe on the left when shower is running & it gets very hot even when shower is cold.

Shower pumped??

Turn off the pump electrics and see if the temperature comes back to normal levels, if there is a handset and hose then remove the handset and lower the hose for a couple of minutes then try shower again.

I have a feeling that your hot water is stored too high in temperature.

Shower might just need a service. Kits available, dismantle it, clean, replace 'O' rings etc, lubricate where necessary and reassemble.

Toilet, try unscrewing chrome surround where flush buttons sit. Lid should just lift off then.

I was wondering whether the flow of water had anything to do with it. I took of the shower handset & hose like you said & ran the shower then reassembled them with a restricter between handset & hose & for some reason I had a perfect hot shower, not that I understand this at all?

The toilet did unscrew like you said thankyou but still not sure why water is just filling up slowly, limescale???

You might be getting air in the pump on the hot side of the pump which will lower the pressure if its a centrifugal pump, making it hard for the valve to mix with the cold side as this side will have a higher pressure.

The inlet valve on your WC might need a new washer they can distort or could be grit or debris in the inlet valve take it apart and inspect it.

Good luck

Thank you. After taking the inlet valve apart it seems to have done the job and is working properly again.

As for the shower I shall see how it goes with the restricter on, if anything I'll save water...
