Hi, wondering if anybody can help with a problem I've come across?
I've just bought an old bungalow and found an issue with the central heating / hot water. When I set the heating to "off" and the hot water to "on" the radiators come on.
Now a little bit of research and I discovered the problem could be the mid position valve not working. So I had a play with the moveable arm at the bottom and found it has no resistance at all, it's just completely loose. When I turn the CH/HW on I can hear the motor trying to turn but the arm does not budge.
My question is, as a relative novice when it comes to heating systems, is this something I can investigate further and fix myself? Or would it be easier to get an engineer in to fix?
I would rather save money and under guidance I would give most jobs a go, but I don't want to make anything worse and have to pay more in the long run.
Any advice would be awesome. I will update with a picture of the valve soon.o
