Hot water not working, heating turning on instead

Woke up this morning to discover we had no hot water. All taps / showers etc. just running cold water. I restarted the boiler (switched off at mains) to see if that helped and made sure all stopcocks were open. Once this had been done, the heating came on instead of the water.

Thermostat is set to lowest setting and heating is on full blast but still no hot water. Heating switched off at control panel, with hot water on.

Help please!

Only thing of note that I have done was to turn off water supply to taps so I could take out a basin the other day in the cloakroom downstairs. Problem may have existed since then as we may just have been using up the residual hot water in the system.

I reconnected everything at the time and all seemed well so not sure if this is related or not.

Do you have a hot water cylinder? If so then this might be stuck:

Look carefully at the picture. Do you see the words "hot water" and "central heating"?

I love how people expect us to just guess what boiler or type of system they have .

If it's a combi. Has the sink got a Mixer tap if so did you connect it properly
