hi everyone just found this sight and sorry if question already asked but my daughter has just bought a house and the water cylinder is vented with it being heated by a separate boiler but there doesn't seem to be any heat going to the cylinder and the tank sounds empty when you tap it. the radiators are heating up but no hot water in taps any suggestions on what to check first thanks in advance for any help...

Crystal balls are in short supply. Start your own thread and give as much info as you can about the system. pics of the boiler and the cylinder and the airing cupboard pipework is a starting point.

When you turn on the hot tap does any water come out or is it dry?
If dry then you need to look at the cold water tank in the loft, see if it's empty.
If water does flow then you need to check the controls for the hot water, timer, motorised valve etc.

perhaps a combi boiler was fitted and the vented cylinder was just isolated and left in situ?

have a look in the loft.

Is there a large tank and a small tank?

How deep is the water in them? Are they full of mud or dead birds?

Bleed an upstairs radiator. Does water squirt out forcefully without dying away? Is this radiator as high as the cylinder?

Provide photos of the pipes, pump, and valves around the cylinder and the boiler.
