Just moved into a 10 year old house and the hot water tank is making a constant buzzing rumbling sound, like its a car ticking over. Is this normal ? Its a standard heating system, not a combi.

The immersion heater is a cylindrical thing screwed into the top (usually) with a thick electric cable going to it. It will have its own dedicated switch, so turn it off and see if the buzz stops.
