Good Morning Everyone :D

I went to get some sheets out last night from the airing cupboard and noticed that some were wet. I then noticed that some water was leaking from the pipework in front of the hot water tank. I have taken some pictures to help (you may have to click on the link, imageshack isn't as good as I remember).

It seems to be leaking from just above the green thing (sorry I think its a pump, it was replaced a year ago by a plumber) and is trickling down the side of it towards the bottom of the pipes (I've put a red line showing where I think it's coming from). It appears to be worn away a little too around the seal and is a rusty colour (as is the water).

I'm not sure what to do, my friend suggested to get some pipe sealant to put around the seals to stop it leaking rather than getting a new pump but he doesn't know that much about plumbing, and I'd want to keep costs low if I can otherwise I won't be eating for a while!!

Any help would be great, thanks!

Samantha

The problem is the pump valve.

The system needs to be drained down and a new pump valve installed (there about £4). There is no need to change the pump though.

To get you out of trouble you could try smearing some leak sealer around the leak.

Thanks guys. I will do my best to get the parts (simple bit) and then have a go at the manual labour part (difficult bit) :P

Thanks for your help and I'm glad it's nothing major :D

Thanks
Samantha

If you get stuck then come back to us.

To make it easy for you buy all the parts before you start anything and only start first thing in the morning just in case you come across a problem at least you can still go to the shops.

The hardest bit will be undoing the fittings on the pump.

gate pump-valves are more expensive, but more reliable, than the ones you have got.
