I have a Hotpoint condenser tumble dryer TCD970 which has started to squeak after about 30 minutes and also has a strange smell as the clothes get drier. I have also notice small silver foil like bits in the fluff filter at the end of the cycle.
This all began when I put a really wet load in the dryer and the dryer would not start and made this horrible smell, I half emptied the dryer and it started to work, but with this squeaking noise, which has remained since. Any advice what it could be? the silver like bits do concern me as I wonder if it is bits of something that could be harmful. Any advice welcome.

I would check the rear drum bearing (teardrop shape bronze bearing) as this could have worn away and cause the squeaking.

The silver bits could be coming from the heater element insulation.
