Our 5.5 year old Hotpoint Fridgefreezer has started to play up. We noticed it was a lot quieter than normal so checked the temperature and both fridge and freezer were too warm. We tried all sorts of things, switching off, cleaning the grid on the back, removing stuff from the fridge, checking nothing was touching the sides etc. etc. Still it would not make the normal running noises.

We found a post on this site about taking the covers off inside and removing any ice around the fan and freezer drain tube, we did that (there was quite a lot of ice) and powered it back on, after a few minutes the running noises started the and fridge and freezer started to reach good cooling temperatures.

This was yesterday, this morning the temperatures get very cold (fridge 2.4 and freezer -27.4) then it all goes quiet and the temps rise to 7.9 and -7.4 respectively.

Any ideas why the temps are not staying constant at acceptable levels of 5 and -18 ?

Only way is a 24 hr defrost. Switch off and try tomoz.

Thanks for the reply.

I had removed all the freezer internal covers and removed all the ice (some with a warm hair dryer) so there is no ice left. Am I missing some ice somewhere? Why would leaving it off for 24hrs defrost it any more than it already is?

Thanks again.

There is 2 internal tubes that blows the cold air from the freezer to the fridge , they are concealed so you can't see them blocked up with ice. You only cleared the visible ice.

Thanks, that makes sense. Will go for a 24hr switch off then when there is less in the freezer.
