I have a Hotpoint First Edition 1200 washing machine. The soap tray has lots of residue in it making it stick closed. Is it possible to remove the tray to clean it? How do I get it out?

without knowing the exact model number I would think the soap dispenser is of the type were you pull the drawer out as far as it will go then at the back in the middle there is botton, push down gently while pulling the dispenser out. it should detach from the machine.
