Hi all,

In a bid to tighten up the 3 bolts holding the concrete block to the drum and quieten my machine, I ended up shearing off the front one.

the plastic plug from the drum casing has just snapped off, so I cannot tighten the screw in there.

As a result, the machine is noiser than ever.

I notice the plastic casing around the drum seems to be in two parts (front and back)
are these bits replaceable?
If so, are they cheap to replace, and is it an easy job for a hotpoint specialist?

just wondering if it is financially viable or whether to bite the bullet and purchase a new machine.

thanks,
Matt

tub change, oh dear.

I hated doing them

if its over 5 get a new m/c a tub change is the longest job ever, quickest i ever did it was 1 1/2 hours, average time 2 hours

you have to: take the lid off, take the front dial off, soap drawer out front facia off, interlcok retaining screws off, door seal retainer off, bottom 3 scews off, front panel off, drive belt off, top weight off, motor off, soap dispnenser pipe off, whole fron faascia off, diss heater and stat, pull pressure swicth pipe off, waste outlet pipe off, lift whole tub out, undo pulley nut, take front plate off, hit spider with hammer to get inner tub out, take bottom weight off, take spider off inner drum, suspension rods off, take pressure chamber off, get new tub and put it all back together. no simple really, just very time consuming (i think i got it all) that was how it was done maybe 15 years ago when i worked for HP

it could be worse, it could have been a washer dryer or even a top loader.

uh oh.

well I have no idea how much that psrt would cost, but with labour, maybe it is just worth getting a new machine.

any current Hotpoint engineers on there?
i'm assuming the procedure is very similar, but if anyone has an idea of the cost of parts, that would be great.

thanks,
Matt

as i used to work for hp, when my one gave up (got it cheap at the time) I phoned up and gave the names of parts i wanted changed, cost was £15 more than a new one, need you ask i never bothered

HP keep changing the rules, last i heard was there is no max charge, there was a max charge of £160, then £180 just as i left. either way its all chargeable so get a new one, and as i said over 5 prts will cost more than a new one, you caould always ring up HP and ask, like i did

tel 08709 066 066 they are open till 15 30 today (sunday)

I would agree with Breezer. Its a job that anyone could do but takes ages and can easily end in tears ( insides of machines can have very sharp edges, So much so that we where issued with Kevlar fingerless elbow length gloves to save us from the sometimes razor sharp edges..)

I would get a new machine.. but choose wisely.. You only get what you pay for .........

Phone them. Fixed price repairs including parts. Upto 5 years old is around £80 - £90. Upto 10 is around £100 to £110.

i dont dissbelieve you, but last time i bumped into an old work mate (in B & Q) he said they scrapped that and now its limitless, perhaps they saw sence and changed it again?
